What is 12-Lead ECG?
A 12-lead ECG is the gold standard for cardiac rhythm and electrical activity assessment. It captures the heart's electrical signals from 12 different angles, providing a comprehensive view of cardiac function.
The "12 leads" refer to 12 different electrical views of the heart, created using 10 electrodes placed on the chest and limbs. Each lead provides unique information about the heart's electrical activity:
- Limb leads (I, II, III): View the heart's frontal plane
- Augmented leads (aVR, aVL, aVF): Enhanced views of the limb leads
- Precordial leads (V1-V6): View the heart's horizontal plane
